Academic

Who this template is for

This template is for applications where completeness beats brevity, and where the one-page rule does not apply. Universities, research, healthcare, teaching: a selection committee expects the full list of degrees, supervisions, courses and publications, and it will read it. It is also the right format for a qualification dossier, a grant application or a hospital post, where the document serves as an administrative record as much as a presentation.

How the layout is built

A single column, designed to run over several pages without the layout drifting. The header stays sober: name, title, contact line. Section headings are framed by double rules, a typographic convention of academic publishing, and the whole is set in EB Garamond, the most literary serif in the catalogue. Skills are not tags but written as running text, which avoids the grid of pills that fits a research profile poorly. Experience entries accept long descriptions without breaking the rhythm.

With or without a photo

No photo, in line with academic practice: a university application pack does not include one, and several committees explicitly ask for an anonymisable CV for the first round of review.

ATS readability

Few academic applications go through an ATS, but the template stays compatible: one column, a linear flow, standard headings and purely decorative rules. The one thing to know is the choice of writing skills as running text rather than as a list: extraction works, but a tool looking for isolated keywords will be less precise than with the tech template.

PDF and Word export

This is the template built for long documents: in PDF the pagination stays under control over four or five pages, and section headings never end up alone at the bottom of a page. In DOCX the file stays perfectly clean and editable, with no column or background to rebuild, which matters when a committee asks for a Word CV to complete.

If this one is not quite right, these three play in the same register.

  • Classic

    Classic

A sober single-column layout set in Lato, with no ornament. Sections follow the order recruiters expect and every line stays readable by applicant tracking systems.

  • Elegant

    Elegant

Cormorant Garamond headings, hairline separators punctuated by a diamond and a gold accent. Quiet elegance, almost no bold weight.

  • Minimal

    Minimal

Plenty of white space, body text in Inter and headings in EB Garamond. Nothing else: the layout steps back so the content can breathe.
